Sales and profit

Quick answer

Open Insights → Sales & Inventory and choose a period to see revenue, profit and items sold from recorded orders, excluding cancelled orders; profit counts only sales whose item has a recorded cost. When at least five Shopfront shops had sales in the period, the Sales health card can also say which top or bottom percentage of Shopfront sellers your revenue places you in.

How do I read sales, revenue and profit?

Open Insights → Sales & Inventory and choose Week, Month, 3 months, Year or a custom date range. Month (the last 30 days) is the default. Each figure is compared with the period of the same length immediately before.

  • Revenue is the total of recorded orders, including postage the buyer paid.
  • Items sold counts orders in the period.
  • Fees (platform commission plus payment processing) appear under revenue and in the Channels table, which marks a fee as estimated when the marketplace did not report one.

Revenue and items sold both exclude cancelled orders.

Why is profit missing or partial?

Profit is the sale price minus the item cost and fees, counted only for sales whose item has a cost recorded.

  • With no costs recorded, the Profit card shows Add costs to unlock.
  • With some costs, it shows how many of the period's sales the figure is based on.

Sales that are not linked to an item cannot take a cost. Record what your stock cost in Listings → Costs.

How does my shop compare with other sellers?

The Sales health card can include a sentence such as "You're in the top 10% of Shopfront sellers this period." It ranks your recorded revenue for the selected period against other Shopfront sellers who had sales in that period. Below the top half, it gives your bottom percentage instead.

The sentence does not appear when your shop had no sales in the period, or when fewer than five Shopfront shops had sales in it.

How do I read the forecast?

The forecast estimates your revenue for the next four weeks as a range, with the median and an 80% range. It also compares the previous four weeks' forecast with what you actually sold. If the forecast says it is capped by your current stock, listing more items raises that limit.
